What is the minimum age permitted on tour?
Why should adults have all the fun?! We welcome children of all ages. Parents should discuss with Knowdonia an itinerary suitable for all ages in the group.
No discount is offered for children of any age, and all children must be accompanied by an adult.
It is important that the age of the child/children must be notified in advance and aside from one booster seat that we provide, the correct chair(s) needs to be provided by the legal guardian(s). Please refer to the ‘Terms and Conditions’ > ‘Children’ (link at the bottom of this page) on the strict rules on children and car seats.
Are dogs allowed on board?
Yes. You are more than welcome to bring your furry friends along for the experience. We allow a maximum of two per group.
Please let us know about your travelling companion when booking with us.
Do I need to have my personal travel insurance?
You will be covered by our comprehensive insurance when onboard the vehicle, however, personal travel insurance is not included in the price of the experience and should be organised independently.
YOUR BOOKING
Can Knowdonia book my accommodation and attractions?
At present, Knowdonia does not get involved with any booking of anything on behalf of our customers, however, we can of course signpost and assist with choosing a suitable locale based on where/what you wish to have your experience with us.
What if I wish to pre-book an attraction to take place on our day?
Apart from two of our specialist experiences (‘The Adrenaline Seeker’ and ‘The Artisan’), you shouldn’t need to pre-book an attraction or tour. Currently, we can’t pre-book any visitor attractions.
Instead, we ‘signpost’ you to the best-suited attractions to what you’re after. Don't forget, we’ll have had your questionnaire back by then so we’ll have a pretty good idea!
Regardless of your chosen experience, however, feel free to go ahead and book directly with an attraction/tour. Once you have booked with us, it is incredibly important that you communicate where and when this is, so that we can tailor the day around it - as well as ensuring we get you there well on time!
Can we do specialist activities such as paddleboarding, canyoning or climbing?
As per our signposting mentioned above, there are a plethora of activities and expert guides here in North Wales. They will of course charge extra, but if you tell us what you would like to do, we will find someone that can do it!
ON THE DAY
Where is the departure/drop off point?
Wherever you are staying in North Wales. If you are travelling by rail or departing at the end of the day, then we could pick you up/drop you back at a local rail station or make alternative plans (at a pre-agreed additional cost) if required.
What time does my tour depart?
This is dependent on the experience you have chosen, where you are staying and what it is you wish to do. For most of the experiences (assuming you are based in a central location), it would be an 8:45 pick up and a 5:30pm drop off. We communicate all of this information in the lead up to your day with us.
What happens if I am late for the departure?
You are entrusting us to provide you with an experience based on a pre-agreed departure time. If you are late for departure, then we may not be able to do everything we had planned that day. The drop off time will remain fixed, so your day with us will be shorter. For this reason, we don’t stress over it due to our flexibility - but the other members of your group may!
What kind of clothes will I need?
Welsh weather is beautiful but changeable, so dress in layers that can be added to or taken away as needed. Ensure you have walking boots, a waterproof jacket, and a hat and gloves too. As we like to step away from the kerb, we can be found walking on rough ground that is a bit squelchy on occasion, so hiking boots with good tread are a must. You are more than welcome to leave jackets/jumpers on the van at the various stops.
We cannot guarantee the weather, but we can guarantee the scenery!
What if the weather is awful?
A great deal of North Wales is either coastal or mountainous (or both!), so changing weather is only to be expected.
There will be no refunds or discounts for bad weather. Regardless of what the weather does, except in extreme circumstances where the safety of those on board takes precedence, the experience will still go.
Do I need to bring any special equipment with me on the tour?
Aside from sensible clothing, you might consider sunblock in summer months, insect repellent and binoculars if you have them, to help spot wildlife and zoom in on aspects of the landscape on your experience. Oh - your camera!
Once you have booked with us, we will send you a list of things you will need/find handy for your day out.
What are the plans for lunch?
If you are bringing your own packed lunch or buying when out and about, let us worry about where to stop - we know a few places!
If you want to eat out at a cafe, restaurant, eatery, we will always try to include family-run, local cafes and restaurants in our itineraries – to both support local communities and give you the chance to taste the wonderful local produce. The places we will stop at will depend on the tour, but we are always happy to hear about your preferences and accommodate them as much as we can.
Will I have some free time?
Of course! It is your day after all. We are not itinerary-led so every experience is different. You will have plenty of time to explore, enjoy your meals and discover local pubs if you wish!
Are the tours suitable for passengers with limited mobility?
Unfortunately, Knowdonia is currently unable to offer special or modified vehicles to accommodate disabled or special needs passengers requiring a wheelchair or other such mobility assistance and/or special seating.
It is our intention to operate such a modified vehicle in due course but for the time being please discuss matters of this nature with us prior to booking and we will make every effort to accommodate any accessibility requirements accordingly.
Persons who are unable to travel independently are to be accompanied by a companion who is able to provide any necessary assistance.
How can I ask a question not listed here?
Please feel free to get in touch using our ‘Contact’ option (top right of the page) and we’ll do our best to get back to you promptly. We’d love to hear from you.
